Planning a Website Redesign Without Losing SEO

A redesign can improve performance and conversions, but changing URLs or removing useful content without a plan can damage established visibility.

Record the current site

Export indexed URLs, analytics landing pages, backlinks and ranking pages before design work begins. Decide which content should be retained, improved, consolidated or retired.

Map every changed URL

Keep valuable URLs where possible. When a page must move, create a permanent redirect to the closest relevant replacement rather than sending everything to the homepage.

Verify after launch

Check status codes, canonicals, robots directives, structured data, internal links and sitemaps. Monitor Search Console coverage and performance so unexpected changes are investigated quickly.
